Vaccinations provide artificial active immunity; antigenic material which has been rendered harmless is exposed to the immune system. Antibodies and memory cells are made as the body treats it as a real disease.

Types of vaccine include:

– whole living microorganisms
– attenuated organisms
– dead organisms
– preparation of antigen
– harmless toxin

Herd Vaccination: vaccinating 95% of population to stop spread of disease.

Ring Vaccination: vaccinating the people that the infected person has come into contact with. Used in livestock.
